IVAN SLATER

Aboriginal Project & Engagement Officer

Ivan is a Kamilaroi man from Walhallow Reserve (Caroona Mission) in North West NSW on the Liverpool Plains and commenced working with MDS in October 2019.

Ivan's qualifications are Bachelor of Arts in Adult Education & Community Management, Diploma Project management, Cert IV in Assessment & Workplace Training - all of which enhance his knowledge and compliment his skills in project and community capacity building.

Ivan has held executive positions on both Aboriginal Corporations and Local Aboriginal Lands Council and has been a regional representative for Northern Region Local Aboriginal Land Council. He has worked in various Correctional Centres in NSW, providing Aboriginal inmates access to Vocational Educational and Training programs. He has also worked for TAFE NSW for 28 years, and the last 12 as Manager of the Aboriginal Education & Training Unit at TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute. His TAFE experience has given him a comprehensive knowledge of tertiary institutions and strong skills in communicating with client and students at all levels.
