Reconciliation day commemorates two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey, one being the 1967 referendum and the other being the high court Mabo decision.
This year’s reconciliation theme is “Don’t keep history a mystery”. The theme is a positive reminder that we must continue to come together to strengthen relationships and share our stories.
Here at MDS we held a reconciliation afternoon tea on Monday 28 May. We listened to music by aboriginal artists and watched Aunty Val’s stolen generation testimonial which touched many people’s hearts and exposed us to the pain that she endured during this terrible time.
We were honoured to have a local artist, Susan Grant, come along. Susan has produced a beautiful piece of art telling her story about Elders through Black Boy trees which was unveiled during the event.
