The last few years have seen a number of changes in the sector; NDIS, CHSP, and even the language has changed, DOHA to DSS, person centred, enablement, wellness, re-enablement… The list goes on. This has seen much uncertainty and uncertainty creates fear and fear creates conflict and this can become a vicious circle.
What can you do about it? If you are a manager or supervisor, you can talk to your team constantly about what you know so they know that they aren’t in the dark or alone with their fears. What else can you do? Share and pass on information you receive or recommend information to others. What else? Ensure everyone is ready for change by being open and transparent about what the organisation is doing. ASK staff what they might benefit from and what they need from you as a manager or from each other as staff members. Do you recognise an increase in conflict, fear or uncertainty in your staff? DON’T ignore it! Take action and SUPPORT staff to be comfortable about talking to each other and senior staff about what is happening.
